KYJO 1st Female Summer Olympics

KYJO started their 1st Female Summer Olympics in August 2014. The KYJO girls and staff participated in sports and activities in a two day span where two teams, Black Panthers and Pink Ladies, competed for championship. The activities included: volleyball, basketball, softball, dodgeball, relay, poetry, essay, spelling bee, and tug-a-war. These girls had the opportunity to learn the fundamental of sports, teamwork, and achievement. Even though it was during the hot summer days, both teams managed to get along and had a great time.

Our winner for the individual poem contest for the Female Summer Olympics was Sydney. Read her poem below:

Just Because
By: Sydney

Just because I’m a Ginger;
Doesn’t mean I’m different;
Doesn’t mean I’m ugly;
Doesn’t mean I’m a bully;
I am unique.

Just because I’m a drug user;
Doesn’t mean I sleep around;
Doesn’t mean I back stab people;
Doesn’t mean I forget the ones that love me;
I am hopeful.

Just because I’m thick;
Doesn’t mean I’m fat;
Doesn’t mean I’m pregnant;
Doesn’t mean I’m lazy;
I am an athlete.

Just because I may make wrong decisions;
Doesn’t mean I’m dumb;
Doesn’t mean I’m a follower;
Doesn’t mean I’ve given up;
I am always trying.
